The loop location of Planned Parenthood Illinois opened doors at its new location at 16 N. Wabash Ave.
The move better prepares the center for the increase of out-of-state abortion seekers traveling to Illinois as restrictions tighten across the country. The newly expanded health center has more waiting room seating, bigger exam rooms and four more consultation rooms.
“We want to be where our patients need us and where it is easiest for them to access care,” said Paula Thornton Greear, Chief External Affairs and Reputation Management Officer.
In 2020, the Illinois Department of Public Health released data that 36,174 Illinois residents had abortions in the state whereas almost 10,000 out-of-state residents sought abortion care in Illinois.
In 2010, only 3,000 abortion seekers in Illinois were from out-of-state.
Thornton Greear wants residents from surrounding states to know Illinois Planned Parenthood is there for them if they need care.
“Our number one goal is to let people know our doors are open and they will continue to stay open,” she said. “We are here for all of their reproductive and sexual health needs.”
The loop location of Planned Parenthood Illinois is one of only a handful of local health centers that provides the in-clinic abortion as well as the abortion pill. For the most recent information about abortion access in your city, use the abortion finder here: https://www.abortionfinder.org/
