Europeans have been fans of Dr. Hauschka’s natural skincare products for years. I was lucky to have encountered them thanks to a college friend from Germany who had the best complexion we Midwesterners all desired. When I heard that Dr. Hauschka was launching a makeup line, I knew that I would be trading in some of my daily staples for new ones.
The makeup line is smart. It doesn’t overwhelm you with so many colors that you probably won’t use. Instead, it’s thoughtful and works with your style.
The Colour Correcting Powder is award-winning in Europe, and it adjusted the pigmentation and redness in my skin. Witch Hazel is an ingredient that is key in many of the powders and blushes.
“Many people think that you need to use product to cover your redness, and actually you need a product that stabilizes it,” says Karim Sattar, an international makeup artist who has been involved in the process of developing the new Dr. Hauschka Makeup line since day one. I got to chat with Karim about the line, which is carried at Merz Apothecary here in Chicago.
He says the Color Correcting Powder is definitely one product that will blow people away.
“This can be used under your foundation and conceals redness, signs of aging, dull-looking skin, dark circles under the eyes. [It] blends around the nose and diminishes the appearance of uneven pigmentation,” he says. “Our unique blend of ingredients allows you to use all Dr. Hauschka powder formulations under liquid textures such as foundation and concealer. This increases the coverage of the foundation and results in a spectacular, flawless finish.”
Karim demonstrated an eye makeup trick that blew me away: The eye shadow trio #02 –Jade comes with eye shadow color Aubergine that can be used in my brows to highlight my natural green eyes. When Karim applied the aubergine eye shadow to my brows, my eyes popped and were more the focal point of my face.
I’m also obsessed with Eyeshadow 04- Verdelite and how it transforms with different bases. Dr. Hauschka Eyedefiners can be used to underlay the Eyeshadow Singles in shades Verdelite and Lapislazuli to create alternative stunning nuances.
As the for the collection’s lip colors, they’re rich in rose hip, which hydrates so the average user won’t need a lip care treatment like a balm before they apply the lipstick. I asked Karim what lip colors will be in as we head into the holidays.
“Lip colors in our Berry color family are THE upcoming shades for the Fall & Winter season,” he says. “Cassis, Burgundy & Berry shades, as well as deep purples and lilacs are the must-haves!”
