Last month, Aly & AJ released With Love From, their most intimate album to date. It’s a collection of delicate, mellifluous songs that feel like the sonic equivalent of warm sun rays and cool breezes. Rooted in Americana hallmarks, it is a refreshing look at love, life, and the beauty that surrounds us.
When the duo – comprised of sisters Aly Michalka and AJ Michalka – performed at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago on April 8, they celebrated their new material by playing every song off the release, much to the delight of fans who were ready to sing along with every word.
On top of With Love From tracks like “Open to Something and That Something Is You” and “Love You This Way,” Aly & AJ also treated the audience to fan favorites from their entire career.
“You’re gonna hear a lot of songs from A Touch of the Beat and then, of course, you’re gonna hear some stuff from the past. Thank you for being here this evening. Now we’re gonna play one of our favorites, and I feel like one of yours,” said Aly to a roar of cheers when introducing “Stomach.”
Miya Folick also used her opening set to share newer songs as her forthcoming album Roach is set to be released on May 26. Before playing “Nothing to See” – a new one from Roach – Folick couldn’t help but comment on the positive energy exuding from the crowd.
“The vibes are very high, I must say,” she noted.
