On Aug. 21, the third night of the Democratic National Convention – held at the United Center in Chicago – featured the theme “A Fight for Our Freedoms.” World leaders including Representative Nancy Pelosi, House of Representatives Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg all delivered powerful remarks, as did Oprah Winfrey who made a surprise appearance that brought down the “House that Jordan Built.”
Former President Bill Clinton also inspired the crowd with a speech that clearly laid out the decision before the American electorate.
“In 2024, we have a clear choice: ‘We The People’ versus ‘Me, Myself, and I,’” said Clinton, later adding, “Not a day goes by that I’m not grateful for the chance the American people gave me to be one of the 45 people who have held the job. Even on the bad days, you can still make something good happen. Kamala Harris is the only candidate in this race with the vision, the experience, the temperament, the will, and yes – the sheer joy – to do that on good and bad days. To be our voice.”
The night also included several captivating performances from the likes of Maren Morris, Stevie Wonder, and John Legend who covered Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” alongside the legendary percussionist Sheila E. Senator Amy Klobuchar, National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman, and Mindy Kaling – who served as host – also took the stage before Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was introduced by a group of his former high school football players and students.
